1 Feb (Sun): Free Guided Walk at Pasir Ris Mangroves

Pasir Ris mangroves is conveniently located 10 minutes away from Pasir Ris MRT station. Bring your children down to enjoy nature during the weekend! There are many creatures look out for in the mangroves, such as mudskippers, tree-climbing crabs, herons and monitor lizards. Sometimes, you may even spot kingfishers and water snakes! It will certainly be an unforgettable experience with your friends and family!

At previous walks, we saw quite a few monitor lizards and even a rarely-spotted crab-eating snake! Can you spot what animal is hiding in this picture? Yes, a monitor lizard is basking on the tree branch!

There are many nests of grey herons in the nearby trees, and they can be seen flying about with twigs in their beaks.

The giant mudskipper is a common sight in our mangroves. They are very well camouflaged, but easily spotted if they move.

Time: 5 pm (We should end around 6.30pm, just before sunset.)

Meeting point: Pasir Ris Park, Carpark C.

Meet near the first toilets nearest the entrance to the carpark. The meeting point is a short stroll from the Pasir Ris MRT station. Pasir Ris is a very long park with many carparks (from A to D). Do look at the map to be sure you are heading for the correct carpark.

FAQs

Q: Suitable attire?

A: Comfortable outdoors clothes and normal walking shoes. There may be mosquitoes in the mangroves, so you might want to wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt or bring repellent.

Q: What should I bring?

A: Rain gear and camera. If you want to continue exploring the mangroves on your own after our walk, you might want to bring a small torch.

Q: Age restriction?

A: None. As long as the participants are able to walk well and be responsible for their own well-being during the walk.

Q: Is the boardwalk accessible to prams?

A: Yes, it is a smooth ride throughout, on boardwalks or hard paths.

Q: What if I am late?

A: Just catch up with us on the boardwalk! We will start from the entrance closest to Carpark C (with red star on the image below) and take the first right turn towards the Mangrove Jetty on Sungei Tampines. We will end the walk either at the jetty or near the pond, depending on group size.

Q: What if it rains?

A: This is a rain-or-shine event. The guides will be at the meeting point regardless of the weather. Usually we are able to resume the walk once the rain stops. Please come prepared with rain gear. You should make your own decision whether to come or not in the event of bad weather.
